Why are you doing this?

The Bible Podcast is a celebration of the Kingdom of God, revealed in Jesus Christ. As the church continues to grapple with questions of identity and mission, we should take time to celebrate those things that bind us together. A love for Scripture ranks high among the things that mark the followers of Christ, a common value that draws us together as one people.

How vast and wondrous are the people of God, how beautiful this great Kingdom.

  1. “They are Evangelical, Emergent, Mainline, Anglican, Reformed, Orthodox, Catholic”

so you think the general catholic church are brethren?

  2. Welcome, Tony.

Thank you for taking time to comment. I realize your question is an important one to many people, but I’m quite sure it’s not my job to decide the answer. It’s also not the point of this podcast to draw the borders around the kingdom. If you’re interested in carrying on the conversation of ecumenism in a more appropriate forum, let me suggest both http://www.opensourcetheology.net and http://www.faithmaps.org.

  3. Thank you for undertaking this project. I’m sure God will bless you for it.
I pray that you will realize that this will glorify God. Therefore satan will very likely try to oppose it. Don’t be discouraged by the naysayers. My prayers are with you and this podcast.

  4. Thank you for making something like this available to those that have been unknowingly searching.

  5. While browsing MP3 versions of the Bible to download to my ipod, I stumbled upon this. What a blessing to have a free podcast of the Bible instead of paying alot of money! Thanks for the hard work you do.

  6. What a blessing your recordings have been. Like everyone else life is very busy, but oh the joys of being able to listen to the Bible being read so clearly whilst having a cup of coffee ot doing a mindless job.
Surely this series will be used for the kingdom of God.

I also work with Chinese people, have you thought about doing the readings in other languages at any stage? Maybe a way down the road!

Bless you – and looking forward to the Hiatus ending!!

    Thanks

    Ron

  7. Ron, I think that’s a great idea. The only problem is that I don’t speak Chinese.

What I can offer is hosting and technical expertise, if you know of some way to provide the audio of the bible being read in Chinese. I think it would be very cool to have The Bible Podcast in multiple languages, especially languages that reach into areas where the gospel doesn’t easily go.

Feel free to contact me if you have any thoughts on how to make this happen.

  8. Hey Mike,

You know, [ ed: name withheld ] is ministering in China. He’s “undercover” though. So be careful how you contact him, try through his mom. Chad can help.

  9. Awesome! I am excited about finding this podcast on Itunes to download to my IPOD. Now I am able (with much joy) achieve two goals at one time which are to (1) work out physically (2) work out spiritual. I am able to accomplish both. I listen to the Podcast while I am on my treadmill and I am getting in shape physically and spiritually. I love it. My prayers are that the good works that are being done continue to prosper. I prayer that eventually the entire bible is available via this podcast.

  10. Mike,
I read your most recent blog and have suggest to a Taiwanese friend of mine to look into your site. Also I have another Chinese contact for you. I read a blog out of China from a missionary there http://www.xanga.com/chinaman777. He seems to be high tech enough to be able to handle recording the Bible in Chinese. His wife may even be able to do a Filipino version. You should check out his site. He might help out.

Thank you for your podcast. I really love it. Any plans to do a reading version as well. Currently I have only found the ESV in a rss feed for reading and I would love to have the NET Bible in rss format as well.

    Godspeed

  11. Wesley – thanks for the contacts, I’ll look into them.

Concerning a text version, the New English Translation is available online at http://www.bible.org/netbible/index.htm – you can read the entire translation for free from that site. I don’t think there is an RSS version of it, but if you’re hip to that technology, you might want to contact them with the idea. They seem to be very receptive to new distributions of the text.

  12. Thank you so much for providing this wonderful service! I really enjoying listening to God’s Word from the voices of others. I especially enjoy listening in the evening-right before bed. This is a great way for me to end my day. Thanks again, may God richly bless you for bringing His word to the Ipod.

  13. Thank you for undertaking the Bible podcast. It has been really good for me to listen to the living word, I guess it helps me concentrate better on God’s message and to get better in my knowledge of him. Youre doing really valuable work, thanks,
    and God Bless x

  14. Wow. It seems like a long time since someone has posted. Please be encouraged to continue. GOD has obviously put this on your heart. Your voice and inflection does justice to the Word. I continue to download and enjoy your work. Now that you have whole books available have you thought about making the chapters into a whole audio book, not just a collection of podcasts. I often listen to several chapters at a time and it would be great if they flowed one into another rather than broken up by the intro and outro. Also my I pod won’t play one podcast after another. I have to navigate and start each podcast separately. I would be happy to help with assembly if needed. It is likely that an audio book would be easy to assemble. Have a book intro and outro with all the chapters flowing together. I am sure that your time is precious now that your family is growing. But, I am sure that there are many who would volunteer and help. To listen to a whole book straight through would be a blessing. God bless your efforts.

  15. I have only just discovered your podcast and I would like to add my thanks to those above. What a wonderfully clear voice, with such beautiful inflection – it really brings God’s Word into focus for me! Quite unlike any other reading I have listened to in the past. I work and have a young child myself and am struggling to find the time to read my bible. Listening to you while I do my chores keeps me in touch with the Lord daily and prompts me to meditate on His message and His desires for my life. God bless you and I pray He will enable you to continue this excellent work. Thank you for making time in your busy life and I pray His peace upon you and your family.
